If you are planning to collect computers/electronics from the public as part of a community wide recycling effort, Round2 can help. Proceeds from the sale or reclamation of any valuable components will be donated to non-profit organizations such as schools, churches or scout groups.
If you are planning a community collection event, there are several things that need to be done prior to the event. Here’s how you do it.
- Determine the best date for your event (consider sporting events, holidays, etc. that might compete or compliment your date)
- Secure the proper location. A school parking lot is ideal, as it has easy in and out access.
- Plan ahead for a rain-day. Secure the same or another site in case the planned event is rained out and have signs and promotional materials prepared for this.
- Ensure you can find a minimum of 10- 20 volunteers to help at the event. For a large community, you may need more.
- Publicize the event. Announce the event to the media (TV, radio and newspapers), residents of the community, businesses and
- Post flyers detailing the event in local area businesses (e.g., major electronics stores), schools, churches, and contact the chamber of commerce to help get the word out (see printable flyers for ideas or editing)
This is what Round2 will do:
- Help educate and train volunteers on event day activities and collecting material
- Event set up for traffic flow using directional signs
- Provide packaging materials: pallets, shrink wrap, collection containers, banding
- Provide Round2 employees to help sort and pack incoming material
- Transportation of material from event site
- Sort and process material for payment
- Public relations outreach within our industry relationships

Helpful Hints to make your event a success:
- The more you publicize your event the more material will be brought to your event.
- Ideas for schools include: internal school promotion (web, posters, take-home memo, fliers for parents to post at their workplace), offer to pick up material from near-by businesses (ask to speak with their IT manager), involve other near-by schools such as elementary and middle-schools, PTA involvement
- If possible, setup as much as can be done the afternoon/night prior to the event. This will help to avoid confusion and last minute issues and problems on the morning of the event.
- Plan to have some of the volunteers arrive well in advance in case some people arrive prior to the actual time to donate their electronics.
- You will want to provide refreshments for the day of the event
- Hang a banner at the entrance of the event
